The Southern Colonies were the southern part of the Thirteen Colonies in North America, which were ruled by England in the 1600s and 1700s. It included five separate colonies:
- Georgia was south of the Savannah River. It was the southernmost colony.
- Maryland was north of Virginia and had land on both sides of the Chesapeake Bay.
- Virginia was the site of the first English settlement, Jamestown, located at the mouth of the James River.
- North Carolina was south of Virginia and had the longest coastline.
- South Carolina was north of the Savannah River and south of North Carolina.
