Rosa Parks when she worked in the Civil Rights Movement
Rosa Parks was a Black woman born in Alabama in 1913. During this time, Alabama was segregated by race. Segregated means that Black people were kept apart from white people. Black people were not allowed to use the same schools, churches, or libraries as white people. Black people could get in trouble for being in places where only white people were allowed. This made life very unfair for Black people.
Segregation was part of Rosa Parks's life. When she was a child, she had to go to a school just for Black children. The schools for white children had a bus, but the schools for Black children did not. The schools for white children were in nice buildings. Her school was old and crowded. This made it hard for students to get the help that they needed.
Rosa Parks knew that segregation was wrong. When she grew up, she became a leader in the Civil Rights Movement. In this movement, thousands of Black and white people worked together to end unfair laws about segregation. They wanted Black people to be treated fairly.
