Amanda and Spencer are working on a project for the upcoming science fair. Their plan is to design a water filter using only a water bottle and natural materials found in or near a local stream. They make a crude filter by combining rocks and sand in the water bottle. Amanda and Spencer then pour stream water through their filter and analyze this filtered water with a microscope. They find that while the filter removed dirt and pieces of plants, it did not remove all of the bacteria. For their next model, they add a layer of silt to their filter.
